Jon Mayers

Jon studied BA illustration at Maidstone but spent his last year and a half there in the printmaking department, chucking acid in his eyes and washing his hands in highly toxic chemicals. After graduating he was accepted onto the printmaking MA at the Royal College of Art (where health and safety was much more of a priority) making bigger and bigger prints culminating in a final show where some of the mounted work was so huge that when there was no buyer for it it had to be thrown in a skip. After leaving the RCA Jon played around with painting, sculpture, installation, terrible poetry and wrote three successively less shit books, none of which are likely to be published by anybody. After a couple of years of this he decided to take the lady person he was seeing at the time to some 'romantic' open access sessions at ELP. The lady friend stopped coming, but Jon did not. He can be seen hogging presses quite menacingly and waiting next to other people drying their paper holding his own dripping paper in a passive aggressive manner during most open access sessions.

He etches and screenprints, makes zines and hopes one day to be able to make stupidly big work again without having to throw it away.
